It was probably around eight o’clock at night when we got to Colorado on July eleventh of this year. The road was spectacular to say the least. The sky was full of clouds almost all the way through. At the time we got to Wal-Mart there was a thunderstorm. You could see at the horizon lightings striking on top of Pike's Peak. The 14,000’ giant was getting pounded. “Is there where we are going?” someone said, the answer was yes. The summit of Pikes Pike was our final destination.
When we started our trip we had decided to get all of our provisions from nature. Between the last items that we purchased including; first aid kit, poncho, and water. We agree to get some Nature Valley granola bars in case of emergency. Each one of us had three granola bars. For the last couple of months each one of us trained physically for this trip as well as trained their body to need less food. Taking that in consideration, we thought the granola bars where enough in case of an emergency.
It did not take us long to realize that besides ants, we were not going to find something to eat. We survived three days with only granola bars to eat, hiking almost fifteen miles at a time. I was stuned at how little the body really needs to function. The body is built to survive. It can be pushed to grow in strength while only consuming the essentials. The body is a machine in constant evolution.
